After finding out that our beloved US Department of Agriculture had updated the food pyramid in 2010, it was time to take a look at it.
Now I’m by any means not a farmer but I do know enough people who have farmed or had cattle that will tell you. If you want to fatten up a cow you need to “CARB” it up by feeding it grains and slowly increasing the amount that it eats over time.
So he comes the magic question… If feeding a large amount of grains to a cow will fatten it up, what will it do to a human? Obviously the answer is the same with a human as it is with a cow! OK, so then why does the USDA recommend in a company with a growing obesity problem, that everyone should eat 11 servings of grains a day?
The magic answer is that the USDA food pyramid is not an indicator of what is healthy to eat, but an indicator of what the USDA wants Americans to buy to support the farmers. It’s simple, if you want to get fat, eat the food pyramid. If you want to lose weight and avoid the majority of our civilizations ills such as Alzheimers, Colitis, Crohns disease, many forms of cancer and just plain obesity then avoid GRAINS and stick to complex carbs. Eat real food that isn’t processed and avoid grains. This is the easiest step to improving your overall health and body composition.
